Encounters Shop
16 Wostenholm Rd, Sheffield S7
Sharrow / Venice/ Sharrow - Exhibition
We are re-opening the first dis-used shop that we inhabited five years ago, with an exhibition of hundreds of small photo collages created by visitors to the Encounters Room in the British Pavillion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 06. The photographs used in Venice were of people and places in Sharrow, Sheffield taken of or by visitors to Encounters shops. This unique exhibition closes a circle by bringing this multi-authored artwork back to its initial source.
If you came to any of the previous Encounters shops then maybe your photo will be in the exhibition. Come and see if you can find yourself or anyone you know.
Exhibition starts: 17th June 2008

The shop will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1.00 - 7.00 pm

Be My Guest - Liverpool 08, Capital of Culture
Bluecoat Art Gallery, 3rd - 6th July 2008
The Be My Guest exhibition at the Bluecoat will tell the story of groups of residents from across South Liverpool who volunteered to become Be My Guest Hosts, organising unique community events in their homes, social clubs, or community centres. Hosts gathered friends, family and neighbours together to witness an intimate multi – media performance of stories and imagery collected from and inspired by the people of South Liverpool. During the four days at the Bluecoat the performance will be re-staged and the Be My Guest Hosts will be there at these events to guide visitors through the whole experience.

More About Be My Guest
Be My Guest - Performance
The Be My Guest one person multi-media performance is based on verbatim stories collected from south Liverpool residents of all ages during our two year residency in the area. The performance is divided into six sections each based on a different universal theme of everyday life; place, hurt, love, home, how it used to be, celebration.
Performed by Paul Duckworth, Audio Visual artist Sam Meech, Directed by Ruth Ben-Tovim

Be My Guest - Hosts
Small groups of residents from the six different areas that make up south Liverpool volunteered to become Be My Guest hosts in January 2008. This inter-generational new network of people met monthly exchanging personal stories that appear in the show, feeding ideas into the performance and supporting each other to prepare for their own unique Be My Guest events. Host organised all aspects of the events, deciding where they took place in their areas and who should be invited. Buffets, local dance troupes, singalongs, fancy dress, bingo, DJ sets and Karaoke were all part of the extra entertainment host organised to follow the performance.
